Scholastic Book Fair Fund-raising Success
Scholastic Book Fair was a HUGE success. A Child's
Academy sold over $2000 worth of merchandise, giving us $1,156 to
spend on literacy materials such as books and other helpful items
for our kids! We also earned $45 worth of books for the Kids in
Distressed Situations organization.
This is another way that allows us to spend 4X as much in
materials and supplies for our kids to have fun and creative
projects and learning materials than our competitors. A Big
Thanks goes out to our families for keeping us a cut above the
rest and for caring so much about education! Keep up the great
work.

By Ms June, Ms Nell, Ms Diana & Ms Heather
With Spring in the air, we've become
more active with outside play such as buggy and water-play.
Isabella, Bronwyn, Leah and Kaitlan all had their first birthdays
in April and are becoming more social and mobile which makes for
a very interesting room. We are very excited for them as the days
approach when they will move "up" to the toddler room.
We also have several children that have begun to crawl, sit up,
and be more involved with the infant environment. All the
children have been very busy growing and learning and we are
proud of the milestones they have reached.
Each month brings new tasks for the children to learn, at every
age and you can help your child by talking and singing with them
often, getting on their level and making eye contact, and
touching and holding them.
Mother's Day is around the corner so be on the look-out for the
children's gifts and we hope you have a blissful month!
By Ms Monica, Ms Gail, Ms Samantha & Ms Lydia
We have a very busy month planned ahead that is full of holidays
and experimentation with spring time colors. We will be
celebrating our mothers by making them a gift. Also during May,
we will celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of Mexican
heritage and pride. We will decorate our own sombreros and make
musical tambourines for our Cinco de Mayo parade.
We will go on a yellow and blue "hunt" and experiment
using these primary colors to make the secondary color green. So
expect to see lots of art projects depicting these colors. You
can help your child learn these colors by pointing out colored
things and telling them the name of the color.
Our shape focus this month will be circles and squares. These
shapes are found in many household items and you could help your
child by playing "find the shape."
We are looking forward to everything May has to bring. As always,
we welcome parents into our classroom and we hope you have a
joyful month.
Itsy Bitsy Spiders (Twos)
The month of May will be filled with hands on art work and pretty
flowers. Mother's Day is approaching and our wonderful twos will
be very busy, Itsy Bitsy Spiders will be celebrating Mother's Day
with breakfast and lots of goodies.
The month of May will be filled with tons of art projects and
experimenting with flowers smells and textures. We will discuss
the elements a flower needs to grow and examine soil and the
entities that live in the soil.
Also in May, we will celebrate Mother's Day with a breakfast for
our lovely and wonderful moms! Please plan on joining your child
for breakfast on Wednesday, May 4th. They will be creating art to
decorate the room and a special gift to show how much they love
their moms.
We will finish up the month with a unit of nature and the Earth.
You can help your child by asking questions about what they
learned in school during that day and going on a "nature
hike" on our wonderful property (11 acres of discovery with
a creek flowing through it.
Have a fantastic month and lets learn a lot!
Lovable Ladybugs (Older Twos)
The experiences planned this month will focus on the Arctic and
Arctic Life. The Arctic is located at the northern-most part of
the Earth. Some animals who live in the Arctic are the Arctic
hare, lemming, musk ox, caribou, arctic fox, wolf, polar bear,
seals, walrus and whales.
Color this month: white
Shape this month: circle
Letter of the Month: U, V, W, X, Y, Z
You can help reinforce what your child is learning this month by:
Let your children play with ice cubes. You can even put food
coloring in your ice cube trays and let them use them to paint.
Send books about the Arctic in to school with your children for
them to share.
Help children look for circles in their everyday environment.
Put ice cubes in their bath water and talk to them about
glaciers.
May is here and with it comes May flowers. This month we will
explore our natural environment and compare it to the environment
in the Arctic.
We will discuss the animals, climate and customs of people who
live in the Arctic. This is a wonderful time to experiment with
things that are cold such as ice cubes. A fun activity you can do
with your child is ice cube painting. Fill ice cube trays with
food coloring and water, freeze and then use the cubes to make
colorful pictures. Another suggestion is to place ice cubes (with
a little bit of food coloring to see it melt, don't over do it
though!) in your child's bath water and discuss how quickly they
melt and why this happens.
We will also finish up the alphabet this month with letters U-Z.
Please continue to work with your child on letter recognition,
this really helps their learning ability and will transition into
their preparation for reading skills. Read books to them
consistently and always try to point out letters on billboards or
signs when driving around town.
In addition, we will learn the circle shape and color white. You
can go on "hunts" with your child trying to find items
that are circular or white. They become very excited when they
spot these items.
I also would like to invite all the mothers to our Mother's Day
Breakfast on May 4th. Please take a few minutes that morning to
sit down and enjoy breakfast with your child in your honor. Thank
you for all you do!!
Have a wonderful month!
Creative Caterpillars (Threes)
Welcome to the magnificent month of May!
It's been a wonderful year and we have learned a lot! The end of
our school year is approaching and this month we will learn the
last of our alphabet! W, X, Y and Z.
Once we have completed learning the last few letters, we will
spend the remaining two weeks reviewing the entire alphabet.
Please help your child review at home also. Practice letter
recognition and their sounds, and have them think of words that
begin with each letter. Keep it fun though!! Using foam letters
during bath-time is one fun way.
Also, review counting to 30. (ex. Count the Easter Eggs you find
or all the beautiful flowers blooming).
Have a great month! Ms. Destiny
Brilliant Butterflies (Older Threes)
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for making our
Easter Party a success. Without wonderful parents, it wouldn't be
so easy. Now its time to finish out our school year and what an
exciting month we have planned.
We are going to finish learning our ABC's and numbers. At the end
of the month your child will make an ABC and Number's book that
they can review all summer and be refreshed for VPK in the fall.
We will continue to learn about how to be a better person through
Character Education. Our topics this month are responsibility,
respect, and citizenship. Ask your child questions about these
topics. Also, give them some responsibilities to do around the
house.
Our science each week will deal with our Earth, butterflies and
what sinks and floats. There will be a worksheet sent home each
week. A great way to get involved with your child's learning is
to do some of these projects with them and review their work as
well.
Mother's Day is May 8th and Memorial Day is May 30th. We will be
doing projects, making gifts, and discussing each of these
special days throughout the month. This is a busy but exciting
month. My class is looking forward to honoring their mom's at the
Mother's Day Luncheon and finishing out the school year.
Spectacular Spiders (Fours)
By Ms Vickie & Ms Virginia
The month of May signals the fast-approaching close of the
2010-2011 school year. We started the year with new excitement
and great anticipation. The children have learned a lot this year
- academically, socially and spiritually.
They have learned the names and sounds of the letters and are
enjoying sounding out blends and words. They are composing
sentences and learning to spell words phonetically, with the
introduction of sight words and special spelling rules. They have
learned to count, recognize and write numbers 1-100.
Graduation - the accumulation of 180 days of "sweat and
tears" will include a "Salute to America" through
songs and recitations.
God has blessed us all with His love, patience and peace. The
lessons learned (and not only academically) will have a life-long
impact upon our lives.
Thank you for being such wonderful families and having such
wonderful children.
Dynamic Dragonflies (Fours)
Wow! May is fast approaching and so is the close of the school
year. It has been a fantastic journey. The children have grown so
much over this "short" time we have had together. I am
so proud of the growth each child has made, both intellectually
and socially.
Some of the accomplishments we have experienced are:
They have learned every letter of the alphabet - recognition,
sound, and also beginning blends. We have also gained knowledge
of word families, rhyming, combining syllables and compound
words, combining onset and rhyme, and the deletion of syllables
from a word. We are well on our way to reading - what an
incredible voyage this is and will be. Along the way, they also
developed a love of books and reading.
In Math, they have learned one to one correspondence; recognition
and writing of the numbers, counting to 100 by 1's, 5's and 10's;
addition and subtraction including working with word problems;
weights and measurements, graphing data and the analysis of such
data; the concept of money and the names and worth of each coin,
two and three dimensional shapes, and patterning and sorting.
As if all of this was not enough, they are also preparing for our
Graduation Program. This year our theme is "Salute to
America". I would like to thank each parent for the efforts
they have put into helping your child learn their lines. They are
doing a wonderful job and I am so impressed with how easily they
have learned the sign language to our last song. The songs are on
"youtube" if you would like to listen to them to them
and help your child by singing along.
Thank you all for being a part of my ACA family!!
Parent Feedback
& Involvement
We would love to profile any successes our parents have had or to
profile any businesses that families have that our other parents
should know about. Please contact Jackie with this information.
We also would enjoy getting any feedback about any and all items
about our school. What are we doing great? What can we improve?
What else should be in our Monthly Giggle Newsletter? There is a
feedback box in the front office if you prefer it to be anonymous
or you can let Jackie know.
Thank you for being a part of your lives and allowing us to help
prepare your children for the future! We take our jobs very
seriously and love doing it at the same time!
